Now Hiring: Interim Director

Cultural Advocacy Network of Michigan (CAN)

Full Position Description

At a pivotal moment for Michigan’s arts and cultural sector, the Cultural Advocacy Network of Michigan (CAN) is seeking a collaborative, strategic, and mission-driven Interim Director to help guide the organization through its next chapter.

Founded in 2019, CAN is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit dedicated to ensuring that arts and cultural organizations across Michigan have a strong, unified voice in public policy. We work at the intersection of advocacy, education, and relationship-building—empowering cultural leaders with the tools, information, and connections they need to serve their communities and influence decision-making at the highest levels of state and local government.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the President and Board of Directors, the Interim Director will:

  • Provide administrative support to the Board of Directors in their process of strategic planning.

  • Monitor legislative and regulatory issues affecting the cultural sector.

  • Steward strong relationships with existing members.

  • Oversee the implementation of communication strategies, including social media, newsletters, and public statements.

  • Coordinate work with contractors

  • Ensure effective administrative and operational systems are in place

This is a part-time (up to 25 hours per week), remote, hourly position, offering flexibility and the opportunity to work closely with leaders across Michigan’s arts and culture community.

Compensation: $20–25 per hour, based on experience.

Terms of Employment

This is a time-limited contract position through September 30, 2026. While this is an interim role, the organization views this period as an opportunity to assess long-term leadership needs and may consider a permanent appointment if there is strong alignment.

Qualifications

  • Leadership experience in nonprofit management, public policy, advocacy, or a related field.

  • Familiarity with Michigan’s cultural landscape and the challenges facing arts and cultural organizations.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills.

  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment.

To Apply

Please submit a resume and a cover letter outlining your interest and relevant experience to culturaladvocacynetwork@gmail.com by March 12, 2026.
