In-Person Advocacy Day February 27,2025

Advocacy Day

Join us in Lansing for an impactful day of advocacy as we rally for increased MACC funding and support for arts therapy legislation. This is your chance to connect directly with legislators, share your passion for arts and culture, and help drive meaningful change in Michigan communities.

The Day Will Include:

  • Legislator Meetings: Engage with policymakers to advocate for arts and culture priorities. 

  • Dynamic Programming: Hear from special speakers throughout the day.

  • Advocate Lunch: Enjoy lunch while connecting with fellow advocates, fostering relationships to strengthen Michigan's arts and culture network.

    Meeting Schedule: The full schedule of meetings will be provided at the time of check-in, 8:30 AM.

Arts and Culture Advocacy Day Program Schedule

Legislator Meetings are scheduled from 9:30 AM - 4 PM.

Your personal meeting schedule will be available at check-in.


8:30 – 9:30 AM: Welcome and Coffee Hour with Legislators and Staff

Check-in and start your day with a relaxed meet-and-greet over coffee and donuts. Connect with legislators and staff, share your passion for arts and culture, and set a positive tone for Advocacy Day.

Note: The following sessions are optional and designed for times when advocates are not engaged in meetings with legislators.

9:45 – 10:30 AM: Presentation: Building Your Advocacy Elevator Pitch
Presented by Lauren Ward

Learn to craft a clear and compelling elevator pitch that resonates with legislators. Focus on key points, effective delivery, and aligning with CAN’s legislative priorities.


10:30 – 11:00 AM: Storytelling Circle
Advocates share personal narratives that demonstrate the transformative power of arts and culture. Discover how storytelling can drive advocacy and inspire change.

11:00 – 11:30 AM: Guest Speaker: Rep. Julie Rogers
Co-Chair, Arts and Culture Caucus
Gain insights from one of our key legislative champions.

11:45 AM – 12:00 PM: Performance: Ara Topouzian
Enjoy an inspiring musical journey with the rich, soulful sounds of the Kanun, played by the nationally recognized Ara Topouzin.

12:00 – 1:00 PM: Advocate Lunch

1:00 – 1:45 PM: Arts and Culture Trivia with Lauren Ward
Test your knowledge and engage in fun, interactive trivia focused on Michigan’s vibrant arts scene.

2:00 – 3:00 PM: Panel Discussion: The Future of Arts Advocacy in Michigan
Moderator: Nate Love
Hear from State Department Representatives as they discuss emerging trends and strategic directions for arts advocacy in Michigan.
